Frequently Asked Questions
Babycatchers and Beyond

Where do you deliver babies?

We deliver most of our babies at St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma.  Women who would like to have a vaginal birth after cesarean section (VBAC) have the option of delivery at Tacoma General Hospital.

Can I see a midwife if I’ve had a prior cesarean?

Our nurse-midwives can provide prenatal care for women with a prior cesarean.  Women who desire a VBAC will be attended in labor by our physician.  Our nurse-midwives do not attend VBACs.  Women who desire personal one-on-one support during their VBAC are encouraged to contact a professional doula.  For women desiring a repeat cesarean section, our nurse-midwives assist our physician with the surgery.

Do you offer homebirth?

Although the nurse-midwives in our practice are supporters of homebirth, we do not currently provide homebirth services.  There are many licensed midwives in the Tacoma area that do provide this service.

Do you see children?

Our practice offers obstetric and gynecologic services to adolescent and adult women.  Clients are encouraged to selct a pediatrician or family practitioner to provide care for their newborns.
